It was about 5pm on 29 September 1983, give or take 15 minutes, and also my 18th birthday. I was traveling in an MG BGT car driven by my boyfriend, as I am small I was in the back seat and my friend was in the front seat, we were on our way to covent garden to meet my brother and one of his friends to celebrate my birthday.
As we drove along Waterloo bridge we came to a halt due to traffic, it was rush hour and lots of people were walking across the bridge. Suddenly to the right of our car a massive object, disc shaped silver in color with a hazy lilac blue light shining underneath dropped from the sky, it was huge, it covered most of the area of sky in immediate view, it had portholes all the way around it with what looked like people looking out as some of the windows looked dark whilst others could be seen into. My mouth was open for a while before I could talk, I looked at my boyfriend first, he was slumped over the wheel with his head down I looked at my friend she had her mouth open and was what I would now consider to be in the state of shock, I asked her did you see that, she couldn’t speak but nodded her head. The craft hovered at a titled angle, had a kind of brushed metal shell, bright but dull at the same time. Under it was a red swastika but it went in the opposite direction, the arms were reversed. There was writing underneath the craft in what at the time I called hieroglyphics, I cannot remember exactly what this symbol was. It stayed in front of our car for approximately 2 minutes I would say although this may have been longer or shorter. I watched the reactions of the people who were walking across the bridge, most were frozen still pointing up at the object the others just walked on as though nothing was there. A little boy in the stationary car in front of ours was jumping up and down on the back seat pointing to the craft he turned around and looked at me, and I nodded at him as if to confirm what he had seen, I think his parents were both at the front and for some reason I have a mental picture of someone also slumped over the steering wheel. The craft then looked as though it had been propelled at an amazing speed and almost pinged into the distance, it then appeared to stop hovered for a final second before disappearing completely.

About anomaly

SMiles Lewis has had a lifelong interest in all things anomalous. An early age proclivity at recalling his nightly dreams as well as several personal experiences with ESP, precognition and dream switching bolstered his interest in the paranormal. Shortly after high-school he joined the local MUFON chapter in Austin, Texas. He would later become a MUFON State Section Director for that group as well as leader of the local UFO Experiencer Support and Study Group. A lover of books, SMiles collected over 1000 titles before founding the non-profit Anomaly Archives that serves as the lending library of the Scientific Anomaly Institute (501c3). For over twenty years he has worked with digital audio, video and other bleeding edge internet technologies. He has published his own print journal (E.L.F. Infested Spaces), edited a local paranormal newspaper (Austin Para Times), maintained a large network of websites (, organized a national UFO conference (NUFOC-38), spoken to anthropologists about UFOs and parapsychology (Encounters with the Fantastic), hosted (and been a guest on) both terrestrial and webradio talk shows and has been podcasting since before the phrase existed. All these efforts and more have led radio talk show host Robert Larson to describe Miles as a “Gonzo Alt-Media Proprietor and Informationalist.” He is also the LOWFI-Texas State Bureau Chief of The League of Western Fortean Intermediatists. SMiles’ current projects include co-hosting PsiOp-Radio with Mack White as part of the many unique shows airing daily on his ANOMALY RADIO Network. He is active with several local non-profits which includes his service on the board of directors for the Institute for Neuroscience And Consciousness Studies (INACS) and the Scientific Anomaly Institute‘s lending library, the Anomaly Archives. His writings can be found within the Archives of his print journal ELFIS and ANOMALY Magazine. In his day job with the Texas State Library and Archives Commission‘s Talking Book Program he manages a Volunteer Recording Studio and audio duplication department and has been a consultant on two digital audio development documents for the Library of Congress‘ National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped.
